Animal Care and Welfare Assistant: Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard

If you love animals and have always wanted to work with animals, then an Apprenticeship in Animal Care could be the route for you allowing you to do the job you love as well as earn while you learn.  Working in the animal care industry means being responsible for the general welfare, supervision of animals. You may want to consider a job in the industry that has been described as both exciting and rewarding.

To complete this apprenticeship within 13-18 months you will need to be working for a minimum of 30 hours per week, if you are working less than 30 hours a week the length of your apprenticeship will be extended depending on your working hours.

There is a diverse range of animal care settings that apprentices work in such as dog groomers, kennels, catteries, animal welfare centres, farm parks and pet shops.

 You will be allocated an assessor who will support you through your qualification via email and telephone contact and regular visits to your place of work.

There are different pathways you can undertake, and these will be discussed with you at interview to make sure you undertake the apprenticeship pathway that best suits your job role and interests.

How do you get into the Industry?

To be able to start a level 2 Animal Care Apprenticeship you would need to have a job in the

Industry as this is a work-based qualification.

You do not need to have academic qualifications to start training, in Animal Care.

However, some employers may require you to have a good standard of Education including GCSES in English and Maths.
